Blogging for Authors
If you don't currently have a blog, I highly suggest you start one.
Whether it's posting blogs on similar topics as your books, blogging about your writing process, or just plain blogging about your life, consistent, USEFUL information helps your platform in a number of ways.
Writing a blog weekly or monthly is a great way to start creating content. You can then use these blogs to create micro content on your social media channels, newsletters, and more.
Blogging increases your organic SEO to your website. Constantly adding new information (blogs) to your website will organically increase your ranking on search engines like Google. It also gives your readers new content regularly to engage with.
It's a way to develop your writing, and to keep yourself accountable in your writing. Let's face it, writing a weekly or monthly blog takes self-discipline and consistency.
It's a place where your readers can give you direct feedback. Include a comments area on your blog, this way your readers can interact with you directly and easily there.
This helps you build a platform to accept guest author blog posts, and to provide guest blog posts for other blogs (which is more FREE advertisement for you and your publications).
A blog will also increase the traffic to your website.
I say all this with a caveat*
You must be consistent.
A blog that's not updated does the opposite of everything above, so if you don't have the bandwidth (or an assistant) to keep up with a blog, you may not want to go this route until you have that capability. The information you share should also be RELEVANT, ON-BRAND, and USEFUL/INTERESTING to your audience. Blogs can be VERY useful, but consistency is key.
